Exciting Kids Summer Activity for June Holidays From Your Home

child learning to code at home

Summer break is here, we have sailed through the first week of the June school holidays. This year it is little different, children are mostly staying indoors and parents are working from home. It could be little draining for the parents to keep their little ones occupied.

It is also perfect time to let the young kids learn new skills. We have curated some interesting activities that you could sign up your children into and the best part is it is all taught online.

The Lavender Spaceship

Lavender spaceship coding lesson

The Lavender Spaceship has a unique girl-centric curriculum designed to build future-ready skills delivered by qualified instructors in a supportive environment. They help to increase interest in STEM by providing coding lessons suitable for 7- to 16-year-olds girls.

What is the story behind starting this business?

The founder, Pranati, is a mathematics teacher with many years of global teaching experience. She finds STEM fascinating and has a deep appreciation for its potential impact in the world. She believes that children should be equipped with the innovative capacity that creates technological advances in the future.

As a teacher, Pranati was increasingly disheartened to see young girls lose interest in STEM as they grow up. Pranati decided to start The Lavender Spaceship Project to give every young girl a chance to learn and practice STEM in a safe environment. It is a social enterprise aimed at improving gender equality in STEM and its goal is to allow young girls find their passion for STEM and give them the confidence to pursue it further.

What workshops can you look forward to during this June Holiday?

The Lavender Spaceship is running 2 courses suitable for girls 12- to 16-years-old this June Holiday – Introduction to Python and Web Programming Level 1. The courses are 4 and 5 hours long in total respectively.

The courses are designed for girls aged 12- to 16-years-old without prior knowledge in programming and beginners are able to join. Alternatively, if your daughter is younger than 12-year-old but has fulfilled the pre-requisite for the courses, she is welcome to sign up for the course too.

Apart from these courses, they have a range of coding online classes designed for different age groups (from ages 7-11).

How much would each workshop cost?

The original price for workshops is SGD 40 per session. However, for this holiday, there will be a 10% discount on all the courses. There is also a refund policy; if you decide to not continue with The Lavender Spaceship at any point during the course, they will refund the fees for the remaining classes with no questions asked.

For the holiday workshop, each session is 1 to 1.5 hours long. Therefore, there are 4 sessions for Introduction to Python and 5 sessions for Web Programming Level 1. The scheduling for the lessons is flexible, and you can book the slots according to your availability.
